Background Story

Amina Boufennara is a Toronto-based artist and OCADU alumna whose work blends Amazigh culture, immigration, folklore, and spirituality. Drawing from her Algerian roots and Canadian upbringing, she weaves personal and ancestral stories into tapestries and paintings that explore identity, memory, and heritage. Working with paint, canvas, threads, embroidery, fabrics, and mixed-media layers, Amina creates rich, textured works that invite viewers to reflect and feel. Her practice celebrates Amazigh culture, evokes spiritual depth, and connects communities by highlighting shared cultural traditions and creating spaces for collective storytelling and heritage.
