Background Story

Amina Boufennara is a Toronto-based artist and OCADU alumna whose work blends Amazigh culture, immigration, folklore, and spirituality. Drawing on her Algerian roots and Canadian upbringing, she weaves personal and ancestral stories into tapestries and paintings that explore identity, memory, and heritage. Using paint, canvas, threads, embroidery, fabrics, and mixed-media layers, Amina creates rich, textured works that invite reflection and emotional engagement. Her practice celebrates Amazigh culture, evokes spiritual depth, and seeks to connect communities by highlighting shared cultural traditions and fostering spaces for collective storytelling.
